In Depth & Video Production: Deeper Insight for Impact

Video production is now one of our fastest-growing services. Brands are doubling down on high-quality video to uncover insight, create connections and build credibility. But, how can video production be best used to drive deeper understanding and stronger strategy?

Our Using Video In Business Report outlines that 83% of respondents like video because of the engagement and memorability that it brings. That same report shows growing investment in video as 1 in 5 clients now spend over £10,000 every six months.

We’ve seen this shift first-hand. More brands now use our in-depth and video production services to unlock richer stories and deliver insight that sticks. This guide explores how we bring high production and research together to create meaningful, insight-led content.

What are in-depth (ethnographic) videos?

In-depth interviews are our professionally filmed interviews with pre-recruited respondents in their home or workplace. They offer the ability to observe behaviour in context. In-depth videos are popularly used for segmentation studies, helping brands dip deeper into specific audiences. They help our clients gain real rich insight into an individual or group of people.

These interviews usually film 1 to upwards of 30 participants. Each interview lasts around 1 hour, depending on the number of questions, with our interviewers using probes to gain further insight. In addition to the interview content, b-roll is captured, to bring colour and context to the respondent and topic being discussed, all helping to add to the visual element of the piece and create a somewhat ‘docu-style’ video.

How prioritising high production can elevate your brand

Good production reflects good branding. Using high production equipment when filming your customers brings credibility to the video. Whether it’s for internal research, or for marketing, filming in this way provides rich insight-led stories.

We film people in their own environments. This brings a natural, authentic feel to the content and builds trust with viewers. When a stakeholder sees a real person talking from their kitchen table, it lands differently than reading quotes on a slide. Production quality should always be a priority as it’s what elevates the brand.

How do in-depth (ethnographic) videos create impact?

At our event, Making an Impact in 2025: Video and Storytelling, we spoke through how to effectively story-tell for brands. Our guest speaker, Chris Hewitt, centred his talk around brands finding their north star. Teams within a brand can do this too, in finding how they contribute and make an impact within their company.

For insight teams, finding their north star within their customer is what can drive real impact. High production video can do this. Similarly for marketing teams, their north star might also be rooted in their customer, in which their content centres around.

In the same event, our Creative Director, Pete Norris, spoke about the rise of AI in these two spaces. When thinking about what stakeholders truly engage with, and what content really cuts through the noise, comes from what is authentic. Using in-depth and video production can provide this.

Conclusion

In-depth video interviews blend research with storytelling. They reveal real insights and present them in ways that drive engagement and understanding. Whether for segmentation, brand strategy, or customer experience, these videos help brands connect with their customer.
