The Challenge

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) wanted to capture the magic of the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival and turn it into compelling content that would drive ticket sales for 2022. They needed three short videos for a paid social campaign and a two to three minute hero film for their website, all of which had to showcase the beauty of the setting, the variety of experiences on offer, and the enthusiasm of visitors. The brief called for films that felt beautiful, unique, inclusive, inspiring, celebratory and summery.

The Approach

Following a kick off call with RHS, we worked together to build a clear picture of the event and the key elements to feature, from the show gardens and specialist nurseries to the floral marquee, allotments, open air talks and demos, cooking stages, live music, food and drink, the palace grounds and of course, the plants and flowers. Based on this, we developed a detailed schedule, shot guide and loose storyboard for each film so that every important area of the festival was covered.

Across two full days on site, we combined cinematic festival footage with Vox Pops interviews. Visitors were recruited on the spot to share their impressions of the event, what had brought them there and what they enjoyed most. Their enthusiasm came through in warm, spontaneous soundbites from a diverse mix of attendees.

To underline the personal connection people felt, we also created a visual motif of portraits featuring visitors proudly holding the plants they had bought to take home. These moments became the closing sequence of the longer website edit, reinforcing the sense of joy and ownership that the festival inspires.

The Impact

The final edits are colourful, joyful and uplifting, capturing both the spectacle of the festival and the emotional connection visitors feel. We created simple animated call to action graphics for the social assets so they could be dropped straight into RHS’s paid campaigns in spring 2022.

The two minute hero video now sits on the Hampton Court Palace Garden Festival webpage, giving potential visitors a vivid feel for the atmosphere and range of experiences on offer. Together, the films help promote the event, build excitement for future festivals and put Hampton Court as a highlight of the gardening calendar.

Client Testimonial

“This was an ‘urgent’ job – they turned around a response to brief that was spot on very quickly. They were excellent in the field, listening to what we wanted with an eye on the end result. The videos are fabulous and very different from what we have produced before.”
