The Challenge
The Legal Services Board asked Vox Pops International to run online video interviews with both legal professionals and members of the public across the UK. Their goal was to understand how people think and feel about ethics and diversity in the legal sector.
The Approach
To achieve this, we used Video Diaries as our core method. Participants recorded guided online interviews from the comfort of their own homes, which helped them open up on topics that can feel personal or sensitive. This approach gave us sincere, considered responses and a broad spread of viewpoints from different regions and backgrounds.
Recruitment was a key part of the brief. We needed contributors from both sides of the sector, including professionals and consumers who had experience of or strong opinions on ethics and diversity in legal services. Online interviews allowed us to cast a wide net across the UK, reach very specific profiles, and still keep the process straightforward and accessible for everyone involved.
The Impact
The final films were used to open the Reshaping Legal Services Conference in October 2022. They helped ground the event in real voices and real experiences, underlining the Legal Services Boards view that a diverse public deserves a strong, ethical and diverse profession. The videos were extremely well received and demonstrated how online Video Diaries can bring difficult topics to life, surface honest insight, and set the tone for meaningful discussion.
